As the temperature continues to drop, we are well and truly in coat season. I always buy a few new pieces of outerwear each winter because they are wardrobe staples for those of us in rainy England. I spotted this gorgeous deep red beauty on a trip to Birmingham recently and I couldn’t leave without it. I often wear neutral colours and a lot of black in the colder months so adding a statement colour in a coat is a great way to liven up your outfits.
We went on a little road trip to Bath for my birthday and we were mostly outdoors so I needed to wrap up warm. I layered my coat over a comfy grey jumper and printed mini skirt from H&M for a day of exploring and it was the perfect mix of style and practicality. The skirt has a dainty floral print with pinks and reds that were really brought out by the deep red of my coat. My bee motif bag from Primark that I have been wearing to death, was the perfect match for this outfit too. I think I am having a bit of a red obsession at the moment!
Colour blocking is an easy trend to embrace because you can match your coat to tones in your outfit underneath like I have or use it as a complete contrast. I guarantee you will be racking in the compliments if you go for a bright colour like cobalt blue or mustard yellow. For those of you that are a little more timid, autumnal colours like forest green and navy are great ways to ease your way in.
