Whether it’s one night in a friends house or an exotic holiday, having go to products to throw in your bag and go are crucial to keeping your skin in tip top condition. I’m going on holiday in just over a week and have been thinking about what to pack, so I thought I’d share some of my top picks that I’m loving at the moment. As a beauty product junkie I can find it hard to narrow down my wash bag essentials but these would be my four desert island must haves.
First things first, my pet hate is arriving at a hotel or staying at a friends house after a night out or and realising I have nothing to take my makeup off with. I think we’ve all been there! The next morning I usually resemble the girl from the Ring when I step out of the shower with mascara half way down my face. Insert my travel saviour from Bioderma – Micellar water 100ml. Being small enough to throw into your handbag and also within the liquid allowance for hand luggage on flights, this is such a travel friendly buy. I’m usually decanting my many cleansers and toners into little bottles so this is the simple solution to that hassle.
Sensibio H20 is the only dermatological micellar water perfectly compatible with the skin. Without going too much into the science of it, the micelles attract oil and dirt and lift it from the skin, whilst helping rebuild your skin’s hydrolipidic film (our skin’s natural barrier that protects us from bacteria and other nasties). I have really sensitive skin so having one product that takes off all my makeup including waterproof eye makeup without any irritation is brilliant when I’m on the go. At home I do a second cleanse with another cleanser but while im away for ease I just do two rounds with the micellar water so I know all my makeup is removed. More good news is it’s fragrance free, alcohol free, paraben free, hypoallergenic and you don’t need to rinse after using it so you can go straight to bed. My kind of product!
The next product I can’t go anywhere without is moisturiser. I can’t stand that tight skin feeling you get after a shower and I get dry patches on my cheeks that makeup loves to cling to if I don’t moisturise properly. I have been using this daily moisturiser from This Works a lot recently and I am really impressed by the formula. Multifunctional products are a god send when trying to save space in your suitcase. Previously I was using separate moisturiser and sunscreen but this product has added spf 30 so it’s two in one! It’s important to use a product with spf in daily, regardless of being in a sunny climate. This is such an important step in protecting your skin from harmful UV rays that cause damage and premature aging of the skin. I have found that some sunscreens can be quite thick and clog my pores so it is important to look for moisturisers that are non comedogenic like this. With added antioxidant plant oils, hydrating hyaluronic acid and vitamin E this product really packs a punch but is still gentle enough for sensitive skin. I apply this every morning after cleansing and even though it comes out white, it has no flashback so you won’t look like casper the ghost in photographs.I have used this to prep my skin on shoots so it’s tried and tested and passed the flash photography test with flying colours.
As I have gotten a little bit older I have become more conscious of looking after my skin and I would recommend everyone starts a skin routine in their teens to get into a good habit. I added an eye cream in my routine a few years ago in hopes of keeping wrinkles at bay. It’s of course impossible to stop the ageing process so the little lines have started creeping in, but taking care of your skin definitely helps. I spotted this cream in my local B&M when I was shopping for a new bin, oh the glamour! It is extremely affordable coming in under £3 and I was intrigued by the name ‘snake venom eye cream’. If your worrying, it doesn’t contain any real snake venom, but a venom like neuropeptide known as Syn-Ake. This ingredient is meant to ‘soften the look of wrinkles and help to reduce expression lines for rested looking eyes’. Sounds good so far right? It also contains Eyepro 3X which is clinically proven to reduce under eye bags and dark circles while boosting collagen production and hydration. I have been applying this every morning to my eye area for two weeks now. It’s still too early to tell yet if my eye bags are going to noticeably improve but it does leave my eye area very soft and moisturised so I’m going to keep using it and hope for the best.
Last but definitely not least is one for anyone that suffers with breakouts. Since changing birth control a year ago my skin has been really temperamental so I have been trying lots of products to keep my breakouts to a minimum. A few spots are inevitable for everyone which is where this hero product comes in. Like many women I especially struggle with my skin around my period but I swear its like my skin knows when I have a special event coming up as that’s always when a big spot will appear out of nowhere. This blemish control gel from Trilogy comes everywhere with me when I travel. As soon as I see a spot starting to come up, I put this on as soon as I can to reduce inflammation. The one small downside to this product is that it can dry slightly white so it is visible on the skin, but I just use it while I’m at home or apply it before I go to bed. This is jam packed full of spot fighting ingredients: Salicylic acid targets pimples and decongests the skin, antibacterial lemongrass and mandarin help to control the breakout, ginger is known to reduce inflammation and rosehip is great for repairing skin. I have noticed that if I put this on, my spots will dry out faster meaning more clear skin days for me, hurrah!
I’d love to hear if you have tried any of these products, and to know what your desert island picks are!
Until next time…
