Stripes are a trend that have stood the test of time. I’m currently writing this wearing my favourite stripey t-shirt that I’ve had for more years than I should admit! Most of us have embraced the nautical trend over the years, with new garment shapes coming in every season but the stripes never changing. This year however has seen a shift in our old trusty stripe by literally going in a new direction; vertical! Now I call bullshit on the whole horizontal stripes makes you look fat thing, because any shape and size can look amazing in a sailor t-shirt. But there is something to be said about vertical stripes creating the illusion of lengthening your body. I’m not saying they are going to make a petite girl suddenly look super tall, and nor should that be the point. They can however help to elongate your silhouette by drawing the eye downward.
Supermodels such as Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner have been embracing the vertical stripe in 2017 and if it’s good enough for them I’m definitely going to give it a try! I was drawn to this culotte style jumpsuit in Bershka as I’m a sucker for anything monochrome. I don’t usually wear cropped styles but I am definitely going to be wearing this cut more often! I immediately got a compliment when I came out in this number for a recent date night so it got the thumbs up from my other half as well. Jumpsuits are so easy to throw on and you don’t have to worry about putting a whole look together which definitely appeals to me as I’m a throw it on and go kind of girl!
The culotte style gives the jumpsuit a modern spin and means it can be dressed down with trainers for a daytime look, or pair it with heels and a statement bag like I have for a dinner out!
The jumpsuit I’m pictured in, is sadly now sold out in the stripe version but there are other colour options available here. Im so tempted to get it in red for my holidays! I’m wearing a suede effect bucket bag that I picked up in Bershka to add a pop of colour. you can find that in pink here.
I have chosen some other monochrome versions as they are so easy to wear! Here are my four favourites on the high street right now!
Until next time..
